They are in New Old Stock condition. They are made from high purity Silicon Carbide (SiC), a premium wear resistant ceramic material. They are
In Excellent Condition. Some have minor edge and corner chips which will not effect the overall performance of this component.
Sintered Alpha Silicon Carbide is produced by pressure-less sintering submicron silicon carbide powder. The sintering process results in a self-bonded, fine-grain (less than 10 µm) SiC product which is extremely hard, lightweight, and dense. It has very low porosity and chemical inertness enabling it to function in environments of hot gases and liquids, oxidizing and corrosive atmospheres, as well as strong acids and alkalis even at extremely high temperatures.
Because of its high thermal conductivity and low coefficient of thermal expansion, it is very resistant to thermal shock and will survive rapid thermal cycling as compared to other refractory materials.
This material has very high hardness, very high stiffness, very good corrosion resistance to chemicals at high temperature, and very high refractoriness or use temperature. They may be used for a variety of electrical, mechanical, and thermal applications. They may be used as setter plates for firing parts in a kiln. The may be used for high temperature furnaces.
They may also be used as “Wireless Heating Elements” in the microwave. Using fibrous thermal insulation the SiC will absorb the microwave and convert it to infrared radiation, i.e. red heat.
They may also be used for jewelry or for applications requiring high wear or abrasion resistance. Your imagination is the only limiting factor in the spectrum of possible applications for this component. Be sure to view all photos as they are an integral component of the item description.
