The film is based on the story of the legendary escape of the prisoners of the 9th fort in Kaunas from the Nazi torture chamber.
Time of action - the Great Patriotic War. Alexas, the main character of the film, finds himself in occupied Vilnius. For unknown reasons, he is arrested, and the hero ends up on the death row. While their responsibility includes the incineration of corpses after executions. The thoughts of his own death never let Alexas go. Together with other prisoners, the hero contemplates an escape. Preparations have been going on for several months, a split begins, traitors appear. As a result, the Germans become aware of the preparations for the escape. Relying only on himself, Alexas enters a difficult game.
