This dock worked with my Mac Book Pro w/ M1 Pro where my Dell WD19TB and others failed.
Driving 2x 27 inch Asus 2K displays, mouse/keyboard, charging, and gigabit Ethernet over one USB C port.
I’ll preface the following by mentioning that you MUST install the DisplayLink drivers to get it to work with a MacBook. DisplayLink will request permission to “record the screen,” but a little bit of research will show that it’s a wording issue on Apple’s part and DisplayLink does not record anything or “phone home.”
Rather than simply tell you that this thing just works, I will describe all the problems I encountered using the more expensive WD19TB with my MacBook Pro. I do not think the WD19TB is faulty since it still works great when hooked up to a Dell laptop.
The WD19TB was constantly running its fans at full speed and would seem to overheat anyway. I’d repeatedly have to power it off/on. It also could only drive one monitor over DisplayPort or HDMI and the other had to be driven with a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter. Also the displays would not be recognized if the MacBook was closed (clamshell). When running through a KVM (tried two different dual display KVMs, one with dual DisplayPort and one with DisplayPort/HDMI), it would take a good 15-30 seconds after switching to the MBP for the displays to be back to “normal.” Also, with the WD19TB and other USB C travel hubs, I would only get 300-600mbps upload/download max.
The Totu Docking Station solved all the problems above. After installing the DisplayLink drivers on the MBP, everything just works. I can use my displays with 2x DisplayPort or I can do DisplayPort/HDMI. The passive cooling fins and aluminum body help the Totu dissipate heat very quietly and I haven’t had any issues with overheating (the Totu has even been running in a warmer part of the year). Running a Speedtest, the Totu achieved 930+ mbps upload/download speeds. I can run the MBP in clamshell and the external displays work just fine. I move the mouse in clamshell and the displays wake up (even over a KVM). Finally, I can switch between my MBP and a Windows 11 machine with no problem (tried both KVM switches mentioned above with no issue)
